How to fill out an LMO form...

Hi everyone, I am desperately seeking advice on how to help my employer to fill out my LMO.

I am a qualified hair stylist, from New Zealand, who worked in Toronto 2009-2010 on a 12month SWAP visa.

I now wish to return to Toronto and my ex employer wants to help.

Questions- where is the best place for her to advertise the position?

She is going to put the add up for 3months and even interview a few candidates, knowing that she wants to hire me of course.

After this 3months is up, (October) we will apply for my LMO. I see we have to attach documents that she has looked at other resumes, I will send her my updated resume, and she will put on the form that they want to hire me for a 2 year contract starting March 2013.

Can anyone advise me as to weather this will work? We are both very confused!

Thank you very much, I appreciate any help.

Michelle.

I think your employer is going to have a great deal of difficulty proving she couldn't find a Canadian to hire for the role.

I know aye...what can we do? It is actually really hard to find a good, reliable and hardworking hairstylist, esp as they know that my personality fits with the clients and the other staff of the salon....

I can't really offer any further advice. I think all the employer can to is explain why the Canadian candidates could not do the job and hope for the best. Remember, your employer has to prove that no suitable Canadian candidates could be found (i.e. the Canadians who applied would not be able to do the job) - not that you are a stronger candidate than the Canadians who applied.

Make sure your employer posts the job to the Canadian Job Bank.

I am trying to get my name on an LMO at the moment myself, but I dont like the idea of leading other people a merry dance just so you can come to Canada to work. If there is a market deficiency for your particular skill, then fair enough, but I doubt very much if hairstylists fall into that category. Probably one of the reasons why Canada's economy is so strong is because they only grant work visas for jobs that require unique skills and where Canadians dont either, meet the criteria or, there are simply not the numbers required. I think you will find it very difficult, but where there is a will there is always a way.

If you wish to get a job as a hair stylist and are unable to get an LMO in the big cities, you may want to look farther north for opportunities.

Hi there,

I am also a New Zealand citizen and hairdresser wanting to gain permanent residency in Toronto.

I was wondering if you could give me any feedback as to whether you were able to secure your LMO?

If not, then what other options did you have?

Regards.
