Hi all,

I received my Canadian citizenship through my Canadian parents but was not born in Canada. I have a citizenship card that says 1980 (was born in 1979) on it, but it does not have a day or month anywhere on it. Is there any way to find out the exact date that I received my citizenship?

Thanks
S

When I got my citizenship, we got both a document and a card and they told us to keep the document because it is the only thing that will show you when you became a citizen and you may need it some day.

If you had the right to citizenship from birth because your parents are Canadian, then your date of becoming a citizen might be your birthday but it might also be some other day when your parents registered you. I can only say, you should contact CIC and see if you can request this information.

Sepcat--did you find out the answer to your question. My husband and I are in EXACTLY the same situation--filling in the day and month that he got that card is the only thing left on our application and I'm not sure what to do!!
How did you find out in the end?
