How to change Student Permit to Open Work Permit (student partner)

Hello! It would be so nice if someone could help us!

I am having difficulties with the "Check Your Eligibility Tool" since this is the only way to start an online application it is not allowing my husband to apply for a Work Permit but Visitor visa only. Here is my situation;

We are in Canada and we BOTH have a Student Permit in a college. We would like to apply for my husband Open Work Permit since I am a student. When I answer all the right questions at the Eligibility Wizard it just show the option to apply for a Visitor Visa, not giving the option for Open Work Permit.

Does anyone have any idea what could we be doing wrong?

Yes, I did it though an immigration consultant

consultants are crap....so I played with the "Check Your Eligibility Tool" the only way to do what u want is to select his current status as visitor and not student then u get the change of status in canada form IMM5710. I dont know if thats the right way to do it but thats the only way to do it
