Hi members,

I am little doubtful in my case under CEC which I applied in April 2013. I recently applied for open work permit which I will get around 20th July and my closed work permit is valid till October 2013. My questions are:

1. If my PR case gets rejected, then I would not be qualified under CEC rules to apply because I do not have employment in Canada in preceding 36 months (I worked for Sep 2010 - Sep 2011 only) So, if I start working on the day on which I will get my Open Work Permit and work till July 2014 for one full year, will I be eligible for filing my PR under CEC class?

2. Is there any way to cancel my closed work permit in order to avoid any confusion for the CIC?

How are you getting an open work permit if your PR application hasn't received eligibility yet? How are you getting an open work permit?

Second, If you do receive a new open work permit or any new permit for that matter. The closed work permit or the one you currently have will automatically be invalid as the new work permit will take over. CIC will NOT get confused.

Thanks for your reply. I applied for PR under CEC in this april and got AOR in May. In this way, I applied for Bridge open work permit.

If you get the BOWP, your Closed WP is automatically void.

Please provide reference where it indicates that 'Closed WP will get void once you receive BOWP'..
Or is this Logical conclusion?

It is just a given and you could say it is based from experience dear. I have had probably 6 work permits in total in my 5 years here in Canada. 3 for my first employer, got a different job and a new work permit for a different employer, resigned that cause had to move to a new city with my hubby got another work permit for a new employer again and now I have an OWP. Cause of my spousal sponsorship. So yah never had a problem with that. Obviously when they pull up your files (Thus the UCI) they can see whatever stuff you have going on, sponsorship, work permit, etc. So they will void the current closed work permit and give you the new one. It is all connected, why would they keep a closed one valid if your already allowed to work for anyone. Believe me this is the least of your worries.

You can go to any Canada immigration office (like Canada Place in your town) and return the closed permit once you get the new permit. This way you can make sure CIC is aware of what you have, although as some have already noted, the old permit will become void once a new one is granted.

Also, if you worked for one year in 2010 and 2011, you may be eligible if it's more than 52 weeks of full-time work. If it's a little bit less, you can make up the missing weeks between now and September 2013. If you submit an application soon, the period of work from September 2010 on-wards will be added up. IELTS would be valid for 2 years only so my guess is you need to retake it.
