how to bring your spouse while you're on post graduate work permit (PGWP)?

Hello there,


I have been looking around to see the options you've to bring your spouse to canada while you're on a Post Graduate Work Permit (PGWP). As almost everyone's case is a bit different, i thought i would just ask the seniors here.

So, i just completed my masters in engineering from Carleton university, and have aquired my PGWP valid for 3 years from today. I do have a full time job, although not something in the field of study, and i guess it doesnt come under the skilled work category if that matters to know.

Now, I'm married and have a daughter who's 5 years old. What/how is the best way to bring them to canada, i don't care if my wife gets a work permit or not but at the same time she should be able to live with me here until my visa is valid and also that i should be able to send my daughter to the school.

Could anyone help me identify the path i should be taking?

Two options;

1. Your spouse will have to apply for a TRV.
2. Or, she can apply for Open Work Permit initially. And, it cover request for TRV as well, no separate application.

i was worried if they will reject if she applies for an Open work permit...!!! so according to you there wouldnt be denial if she applies for the TRV or an open work permit? And can she apply online? What about my daughter.?

Your job needs to fall under NOC A, B or 0 skill level for your wife to qualify for an OWP. Does your job meet this criteria?

Even if you meet the criteria - there's always a chance of denial - for both the OWP and TRV. Approval is never guaranteed.

well... my current job doesn't fall under NOC A, B or 0 but C, so i guess there is no GO.? until I find my engineering kind of job?

In that case your spouse does not qualify for an OWP and there's no point applying. You don't have to find an engineering job specifically. But you do have to find a full time job that is NOC A, B or 0.

I just have a question here. But can she apply for just a TRV to just join me in Canada? I mean with no OWP?
