Dear Members,
I am landing in Canada on Work Permit. I want to have some knowledge to the points given below(Please remember I am entering Canada on Work Permit).

1. Can I apply for Immigration while being in Canada? If Yes, then which center?
2. How long does the process take?
3. My wife is also accompanying me to Canada. Can she work there and apply for Immigration?

Thanks,
MAK

1- Yes you can.
2- Depends on the province you'll be in, and the immigration process u'll select. (provincial Vs federal).
3- Yes she can, but she has to apply for a work permit. For the immigration, u'll have to include her as your spouse.

Hope that helps.

Thanks yr97.

I will be staying in Alberta. Could you give me some links where I can find the information on the offices where I can apply?

From some of the links what I found is that even though if you are in Canada, you have to apply in Buffalo for Immigration. Is it true? Please clarify.

Well, an immigration visa (just like any other visa) has to be issued by a visa office, which is typically a consulate or an embassy to. That's why it has to be outside Canada. I'm not sure about Alberta, but it's different if u applied the federal process or under the PNP process. I think u need a lot of time and effort to understand ur options, don't expect someone to easily tell u what's best for you. You can start by looking into the CIC website if you're considering the federal process (which should be fast for you since you're on a work pemit) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/index.asp.

1. Go to Canada on work permit and start your work there.

2. Your Canadian Job looks under skill level O/A or B because Embassy has allowed your spouse to accompany with you. You can get open work permit for your spouse, in that case, spouse can work any where in Canada.

3. Ask your Employer to give you Permanent Job offer also known as Arrange Employment Letter.

4. You will get 15 addition point for Permanent job offer and you will reach to 67 point to qualify in federal skill worker program of Fast track immigration of Canada.

5. There is no problem if you have not work for at least 1 year in 38 category/ occupation list, because you will have arrange employment.
