I have a sister in Canada. She's a Canadian Citizen now and been there for 3 decades already. She wants our mother to go there for a visit. Our mom is now 84 years old. Could you please help us what are the basic steps in applying for a visiting visa? and the requirements as well. This will be her first time to travel by plane.

Thank you very much and hope to hear from you.

For more specific information, let us know what country you're from. Here is some general information from CIC:

She may be interested in the Supervisa for parents and grandparents:

Who is eligible (it's general information, not country specific.):

From what I understand from other posters on the forum, it's difficult for Pinay to get a TRV because so many other Pinoy have abused the TRV and overstayed in Canada. The Supervisa is the better way to go and it will let your mother visit for two years without reapplying for a visa.

She will need to show strong ties that will compel her to return home, such as property, family, etc. (I doubt she has a job at 84, but if she does, include that.) Also, you should write her a letter in English or Tagalog, whichever you prefer (but must be translated by a certified translator into English or French) inviting her to stay with you for a set amount of time - 1 week, 1 month, whatever you want. She will need to provide proof she can funds to stay in Canada - you can help provide these funds and housing for her while she's here. Include copies of your bank statements or paystubs for proof you can help support her during her visit. She can provide proof of income of her own as well.

If you do a well thought out application and include sufficient proof your mother plans to return home after her visit, you will probably get the visa. There is no 100% guarantee unfortunately for anyone.

Another thing you can do is check the Manila family class sponsorship thread. The people there are familiar with the process much better than me and might be able to offer you better advice :) It's okay you aren't sponsoring her, read the thread and ask for help. You can post in English, Tagalog, or any other language you like!
