Hello there,

So I am planning to invite my mother/father/sister in law next year as we are expecting a new family member since its a critical period for my wife and she wants her family around.

I plan to invite mom in law mid of February and father/ sister in law mid of July. And they all will return together mid of august.

Now, I don't know how to go about applying for this so everything works perfectly. If I submit their applications on dec 1, I should have a decision by dec ..15th ( hopefully positive). If visa is approved for 6 months starting dec 15, my understanding is that when my mother in law lands in mid feb she will be given a 6 month stay till mid August ( hopefully) even though date of expiry on visa is June 15. ( since visa approved mid dec ) is this correct ?

Now, for the other two members, their visa validity would expire June 15! ... How can I ensure that their validity is beyond June 15 ? I can apply late for them two but I want to apply for all three in a package... Can I request that the officer at the embassy does not approve a visa that is valid right away but has a validity starting a few months down the road ?

Thanks

It really depends what visa office they submit their applications. If Ankara, prepare to wait for the next 52 days.

Turnaround is 2weeks.

A better question to ask is, what happens when you apply for Trv when travel plans are more than 6 months in future, does the visa stamp come back starting in a future date - which will make it all fine or does the stamp come starting from the date it is issued with 6 month validity

Thanks

IMO you're applying way ahead of time for your father-in-law and sister-in-law. Visa offices - in India, for example- recommend that one must not apply more than 6 months from the proposed date of entry.

The visa expiry date may/may not be 6 months from the visa issue date. It depends on the assessment made by the visa officer.... and unlike other countries, a Canada TRV validity could be until the passport expiry date.

Also, if you apply for all of them together, they must be able to demonstrate strong ties (individually) to their home country..... because in this case (viz. applying for all 3 together) their family ties to Canada will be stronger (with no family/fewer family members back in their home country).

Typically, even if one requests for the visa issue date to be a few weeks/months down the line, the visa office will mostly issue it right away (if the applicant is approved)
