Hi, i have done software engineering from one of the most reputable government university in Pakistan. Currently doing job as network engineer for past 10 months in a recognised IT company in Islamabad (since my graduation). I just got admission in Master in computer engineering (thesis basesd) at university of Victoria. I also got funding from my professor. My IELTS overall score is 7.0 with no section less than 6. I also have a confirmation letter from the company where i am currently doing job stating that they will offer me job at higher rank after i complete my education. The only drawback in my case is my brother who is currently studying in the same university on a student visa. How should i disclose this fact in my SOP so that it seems favourable instead of a drawback for my visa application?

So as far as I can understand from your above ask is that your brother is already studying in Canada on a study visa and you also want to apply for a study permit but are worrying they might reject you due to weak ties by having a brother already in Canada, correct? If so, then don't worry at all... In the SOP you don't need to mention anything about your brother (unless he will pay for your studies or sponsor for it, which shouldn't be the case). In the SOP, you only need to mention about yourself and that's all. Even in the family information form (IMM5707), it does not ask about siblings, it only asks about your parents, your wife and kids. Your brother will not come in the picture and you don't need to disclose it.....

I'm telling from personal experience by the way. My sister is on a study permit studying masters in Canada. I applied for a study permit last month for a diploma and I'm still waiting for my response but I didn't mention about my sister since it was never asked... I applied from Pakistan. My mom also has a Canadian visit visa and all..... They don't specifically ask and if they want to check your family tree, they will and they'll know that you have a sibling studying there but you are not lying to the visa officer. This visa application is about you... And for you to Prove ties to your country, you can mention about your parents, properties, business, a job when you come back..... You need to mention your long term goals for coming back to your country then it won't be an issue..

Hy hi for which intake you got admission from University of Victoria ?
Will you please share your academic.

No need to mention in SOP, depending on your countrys application forms you might need to mention him there, some countries have the family form without siblings and some with so check which one you have.

Now that you can apply SDS from Pakistan, the family information form is not 5707 for online SDS, it is 5465 where on the second page one will have to mention details about their siblings including step brothers and sisters. However, if you apply under general category on paper, one still continues to use 5707 where siblings informations need not be given. SOP is only about yourself and please dont give unnecessary information to raise doubt and suspicion of VO.
