i'm reading that I need to print an Option C from CRA, but would a copy of my last Tax Assessment also be acceptable?

also - I make most of my money from Rental Income - what documentation would be appropriate to prove this or are the Tax assessments sufficient?

They are asking for an Option C.

You are offering a Tax Assessment.

A Tax Assessment is not an Option C.

Therefore you cannot provide it in place of an Option C.

As per the instructions, provide an Option C. It's free and takes about 2 weeks to arrive, though it might be slightly longer right now because of it being tax season.

that's false information. The application directly says that you can provide other information in place of an Option C, with an explanation.

Anybody else have experience with submitting other Proof of Income information successfully?

If you register on-line My Account, you can print your Option C equivalent from your account. The Option C is a more detailed version of your assessment and will show the sources of your income, inluding rental.

option c printout the same as notice of assessment?

FYI, there is nothing on the Option C that the CRA provides you that actually says "Option C" on it. It's just a term they use and not actually a label on the form. It will say something like "Tax Return Information" at the top and be ~3 pages long.

If you are in Canada and have been filing tax returns, then you are expected to provide an Option C. The line to provide an explanation if you are not providing it is more if you are living in another country and don't have a recent Option C to provide. I was in this boat - had been living int he UK for a few years when I applied to sponsor my husband, so I wrote a note saying I had not filed taxes in x years in Canada, but I instead provided by UK tax returns and other tax information in place of not having a current Option C. But if you are in Canada, then there's no reason you can't provide an Option C.

I second SchnookoLoly. You are required to provide Option C and if you unable to do so you are required to provide an explanation why you cant. A person should submit an additional document in lieu if they are if they are not living here or haven't filed taxes.

Quoting from the document checklist and the forms

"Make sure you include with the application the original Option-C printout obtained from the Canada Revenue Agency"
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5481E.pdf
"If you do not provide this printout, provide an explanation on a separate sheet of paper" http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5491E.pdf

@chucky44: Option C is a more detail version of the NOA
@ spinning_sponsor: Yes it doesnt say Option-C but the OP will need to call the CRA and order for "Option-C"

ok - so the only way to get the OPTION C is to call in, or can I order it online?

The only instructions I found to get something online were for the Notice of Assessment, not the Option C version AFAIK. I just logged into it and it's the same thing, so I don't know if that's the same or not. However it's a 5 minute automated phone call, once you get through. I had to redial about 20x to get through. I got mine in about a week.
