How old can fingerprints be for submitting to FBI?

Does anyone know if it matters what date you got your fingerprints done when you are ready to submit to FBI?

Scientifically speaking, I'd assume that as long as you have not gotten new fingers, the fingerprints should still be valid.

Scientifically speaking, you'd be right.

Government-ly speaking, 6 months. Though they CAN deny them if they are 6 months the day you send them. I'd get them done as close to the date you send the application.
