There is no set amount that the government has said is sufficient. The visa officer looks at the whole picture, including what they know about the country the applicant is from. It is a judgment call. Basically, the more money in the account, the better, even though they know no one actually needs $1,000 a day to stay in Canada.
I know someone in Nigeria who had a business, a wife, children, a large house, and one million dollars (US) in the bank, all in Nigeria, who was refused a visitor visa to the USA. Clearly he had enough money. They refused him for some other reason.
