How much does the passport stay in the embassy?

Hello,

I applied for a study permit online and the embassy requested my original passport and didn't tell me what is the decision. They received my passport on June 30 and I haven't got any messages from them until now.Does the passport request mean that my application was approved and How much does it usually take to get my passport back or to receive a decision from them after they receive the passport?

Normally original passport request from CIC begins with:

"This is in reference to your application for temporary residence. A decision has been made on your application. We
require your passport to finalize processing your application.
Passport requirements
• Please provide your passport or travel document, with a copy of this letter.
• There must be at least one blank page in your passport.
• Your passport must be valid for the duration of your expected length of stay in Canada.
• Please note that we cannot issue a visa beyond the expiry date on the passport."

They won't request your passport, if your visa is not approved. And you won't receive any e-mail, as you got correspondence message in your MyCICAccount. If you have submitted your passport through VFS/VAC, they should have provided you tracking number. And you can track through this number where your passport is.
Congrats. It is party time.

I got this exact message. I sent the passport using DHL to the embassy directly so I know that they received it. I want to know how much does it take them to process the passport.

I'm not sure on the processing, but I believe it shouldn't be more than one week after passport receipt.
Have you also enclosed prepaid envelope for returning your passport? If so, track that number.
