How much do I wait??

I had applied for my Canadian mmigration about 4 years ago. I received my B number about 3 years ago.

Now the B number letter said that I should wait for 36-44 months. Its been more than 3 years already. The website says my applicaiton is "under progress"" and has been saying that for 2 years now....Is there some way to find out by when I can expect an immigration interview call?

its so hard. My career, education, personal life everything is on hold. I'm not doing a post-grad because if I get a cal in the middle, I will have to leave and that would be a financial loss. I don't know how to apply to get a job because all employers I have come across want people who already have work permits. And I can't get a work permit till I have a job. Its such a catch-22 situation.

Can somebody guide me in this?

Well, you have two courses of immediate action.

1) Call the CIC or local visa office and ask for a brief update.
2) Order your CAIPS notes. These will tell you when your file was last accessed and what the CPC is doing with it.

If it were me I would do both. When you get some more information regarding your case then some of the people here like Dancing Feather and PMM can offer some good advice.

Don’t put you life on hold. After all, your application may not be successful --- there is no '100% guarantee’. You have already ‘wasted’ 3 years --- perhaps you would have already graduated by now. Go to school -- improve your skills -- spend your time wisely.

can u tell me where i can find out from about the CAIPS notes? i'm in india, so i can't call up the consulate. the B number letter said that was not allowed. is there a web link i can check this from??

i am not wasting my life here. i work with GE as an Instructional designer in the Training function. but the problem is that if i start post-graduate studies, its a high investment. and those degrees may or may not be valid in Canada. Plus if I have to leave the degree midway, it would be bad financially. I'm the sole earning member, so I cant really afford to take risks like that.

so if i cud the link where i can check the notes, i wud be very thankful.

My friend, it's a real waiting game.

Been waiting since april 2002 when I got my AOR but men, it's dangerous just waiting and not doing something by improving yourself.

Life must go on , just do the CAIPs thing and go ahead with your life, it will come when it will come!

Well, Nupur all of us are in a catch 22 situations but don't make all ur life decisions depend on this Canada thing.

Lead ur normal life, don't postpone ur decisions unless u receive a Passport request, cause sometimes people don't receive visas even after their medical expiry date.

See if u have applied from India then it may take 68 months (approx).
Which means 5 years and 8 months, and if u deduct this time from today i.e. feb-2006 minus 5yrs-&-8 months means 2000-2001 guys are getting visas these days. And all these people are those who when got file number in 2000/2001, it was written in their letters that it will take 24 months. Can u compare 24 months with 68 months?

So u can well imagine what u are doing by postponing ur decisions.

Well, it's just a suggestion. DON'T KEEP SITTING N WAITING. New session is going to start soon. Start ur post graduate or whatever else u are postponing. See even if u have to leave the studies in between, complete ur rest of post grad in Canada. There u can always apply for waiver for subjects u will study here. So don't treat it a wastage.

Hi All,

Thanks again. I'm ordering the CAIPS notes now. I checked and my application process started in June 2003...

And knowing that I have to wait another 2 years to find out is actually quite painful On the other hand you are right, I can atleast start some sort of distance education program to get my post-graduate degree.

I guess now the only thing that suffers is my personal life
