Hello everyone,

I am waiting for my OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plance) card to arrive since I just renewed it recently. However, I am eager to send in my application and wondering can I just send my Driving License only as piece of ID?
How many pieces of ID do I need for citizenship ?

Thank you

How about your passport, PR card and COPR? Those are the things I sent along with the driver license.

I read on the CIC website and it said PR Card is not a valid ID card. And since they already ask for photocopies of biographical pages of passport already; I dont know if they will accept it as another piece of ID

Photocopy of personal identification. Examples of identification you can use include:
  • driver’s license;
  • health insurance card
  • senior citizen’s card
  • age of majority card

Note: You cannot use your permanent resident card as identification.

I did not use my health card either. I sent 2 copies of passport, confirmation of PR, drivers license and my PR card. Got my citizenship without any issues. Just sharing my experience.

  • if you didn’t have a passport in the past 5 years:
    • photocopies of 2 pieces of government issued identification with your name, date of birth and photograph
  • if you had a passport in the past 5 years:
    • photocopies of 1 piece of government issued identification with your name, date of birth and photograph

Note: You cannot use your permanent resident card as identification.

Looks like 1 is enough if you are already sending a passport.

However, I remember someone on this forum getting their app sent back to them because they didn't have enough IDs. I am not sure if it ended up being the applicant's mistake or the agent's mistake.

I received my AoR and my documents were:
- driver's license,
- passport,
- PR card and
- OHIP, plus a copy of the renewal of the health card.

You can send a copy of your old OHIP card and a copy of the renewal document. Plus a letter explaining that you are waiting for the new card.

thank you everyone :)
