how many days is the stamping of passport

hi! may i know how many days or month is the stamping of visa? when the embassy is requesting for passport is it mean that they need it for stamping.. please reply

last May 03 2009 the result of my medical was already forwarded to London, and last July 29 2009 the embassy in Riyadh requested me to send my passport together with the letter coming from my employer in Canada. may i know how long will it takes to be stamped? and the possible reason why they request for my passport, is that for stamping?
