How long to receive notification of receipt of my application?

I sent my permanent resident application along with open work permit application for my wife to CIC's courier address yesterday and I got an e-mail from UPS this morning saying it was signed for. How long until I know from CIC that they have my application? Thanks.

Well, the good news is that today's date will, in essence, be your official AOR date.

The bad news, is that it will likely be at least a month before you get the AOR email...if at all.
Some people never get the official AOR notification from CIC, so all they have is their delivery confirmation date (proof of delivery receipt) to calculate the processing time by.

It's important to note that if your application is returned, due to an outdated form, missing signature(s), or even something as ridiculous as the clerk, that opens your parcel, seeing that you mistakenly included IMM 5669 for the sponsor (because s/he thinks you didn't follow the directions on the Document Checklist)...it would add several months to the process. We've seen applications returned for all sorts of reasons, of which some were valid reasons...some.

Once CIC issues the AOR, it means that someone opened up the package and has determined that all required forms, signatures, etc., have been submitted. It's really nothing more than a cursory glance at everything.

Ponga you seem very informed on these sort of matters, in your experience on returned applications, when are they usually returned? What I mean is after a few weeks of not hearing anything is it safe to assume that they have quickly checked everything is there and does not need to be returned? Or is it during AOR that a application would be returned? It would be very frustrating to wait two months for it then to be returned.

Thanks for the info. Well I know we had the most up-to-date forms and everything was signed so hopefully they don't get too bothered by an extra form. I labeled everything so clearly that they would be able to see right away that the applicant also has that form and that they can ignore the sponsors version. If they sent it back for that I would be extremely disappointed because even you just looking at a picture of the outside of the document were able to understand the mistake. And the document does say for the spouse of the applicant which I am so it's not like it was such an obviously incorrect move.

I am applying for medical coverage for me and my wife and wanted to have as much proof as possible for MSP to show my wifes application is in for permanent residents. I will print out our fees receipts and the ups confirmation. That will have to be enough.

To add to those questions; I'm a Canadian citizen living abroad, when we sent our package is was around $150cdn in shipping. Would CIC really return it over something small like that?

This is a nightmare!

It's unlikely that your wife will actually get approval for MSP, until she receives her AIP letter...which will be ~ 17 months from today. She'll then need to wait another ~ 3 months before she actually has coverage.

Even though she is in fact eligible now, based on their own language, that says a person is eligible "Once CIC has accepted for processing a PR application..." they seem to win their argument that eligibility doesn't really start until CIC has started processing her portion of the application.

Many have fought, but only a few have won.

Good luck!

Well I hope that's not the case. I called MSP today and was told that I could apply. Does anyone else have experience with applying for MSP for their spouse after applying for perm res?

I admire your tenacity, but I suspect you're in for a long, uphill battle.

The problem is that most of their staff think that the applicant has to have Approval in Principle, which is the stage in the process where they are `officially' eligible to apply for sponsorship, because:

1. The sponsor has been approved.
2. The relationship with the sponsor has been verified.

Until the applicant has AIP, the fine folks at MSP (and even HIBC) don't seem to think they're eligible to apply.

Unless things have changed at MSP or HIBC, you may find some of this...disturbing.

Hi there

I hoping your package is good and will not be returned like they did me . It took me approx I week to get it back out to CIC - I went from being a September 2015 applicant to now being a October 2015 applicants, so you can understand my frustration - lol

They returned it one (1) week later after it was submitted initially.

I would be upset to if I spent that much money like you did to have it returned.
Hate to scare you but CIC don't care how much you spend on your package if it's not conpleted

In my case I still believe they could have requested what they needed instead of sending my entire package back - because I came to find out someone in the forum had the same incomplete issue like me and their package wasn't sent back, what CIC. did was requested for the form instead of sending all back). It really depends on the clerk that opens your package

- also it was a complete mess on how they sent it back to me, was nothing like how nicely and organized it was when I submitted it, all my tabs, index, labels, table of contents, etc was stuff into one big bag with tape holding it together - smh

But like I said you will be fine - if you don't hear anything back within two weeks of submission your good to go

Good luck

Is this true? It's been over a month since submitting our inland application with nothing sent back or no requests... should this mean it's ok?

hello,

Ponga, does that mean that `someone` is not the - for the application responsible - Immigration Officer but an office employer of cic who just determines if everything is included ? Or does the Immigration Officer already take a look at the application at this stage ?

regarding the AOR, we sent our application at the end of July and got our AOR on the 6th of November, but I also got on the same day an additional information request from cic regarding my Schedule A Background and additional family information, in my case cic did not returned the application. I resubmitted now the forms again, even thou I know on the family information IMM5406E was nothing missing, I checked it over and over again *sigh*, hopefully now everything is complete ! I am now concerned that my Open Work permit will take longer to arrive (to be approved) since the Work Permit is bound to the PR application, am I assuming right ? I was given on the 6th on November 30 days to resubmit the additional forms, does that now mean, that cic will only check my application again after 30 days or as soon as they received my email with the additional forms ?

best luck to all of you.

Just saying, I applied in September 2014 and the file was returned in November 2014, so it wouldn't say it's safe before a good 2 months. It's essentially the time you would get your AOR if the file was complete. Maybe (hopefully) the times are shorter now.

It means that a clerk (for lack of a better word) opened the package and gave it a quick inspection for completeness.
