how long til they notify you of pass or fail?

My husband wrote his citizenship test on February 22, 2013 in Mississauga and we have not heard back anything yet but it seems on here, people normally here back within 1-2 months for their oath.

Questions: how long would it take them to notify you if you failed?

During the interview portion of his test date, they requested extra documentation that we had to mail in. They wanted photo copies of passports, bank records, lease agreements, etc. dating back from the day he first entered Canada for both him and myself (even though we didn't even meet for several years after he came here). I assume this makes it a non-routine application so not sure if the hold up is the extra documentation or he did not pass the test.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone with similar experiences. TIA

you probably got RQ. Send it the documents requested and maybe call them one ina while to see if they have the test results in the system.

Just an update, called and my husband did pass his test in February 2013 in Mississauga. They said there probably won't be another update until 2015 as typical processing time with an RQ is 45 months. They said the file shows they have received everything they asked for back in February for additional proof of residency, etc. so now it's just a waiting game for the next year or two.

Hello Danielle,

Did your husband live in Canada for at least 1095 days before applying ? was he ever jobless in the 4 years preceding his citizenship application ? Did he travel a lot ?
Did he send ID card copies of IDs that were issued in the last three months preceding his application ? Did he go back to his home country to take care of a sick or dying parent ? Did he go back to his home country to sell property ?

Don't rely too much on the information they gave you about the 45 months, this is a script that call center agents are given in order to answer recurring questions, chances are that this will clear more quickly is everything is alright. CIC operations director said at a meeting last month that 45 months is way too much and that this script has been changed ( obviously, you fell on a call agent who is confirming the opposite).

There is an association called " Association of Future Canadians" who is working hard to make things move for RQ recepients, here is the website with all the information you need in order to understand what is happening : http://residencequestionnaire.wordpress.com/association-of-future-canadians/

Yes spend well over the 1095 days, he's self-employed so not jobless - paid his taxes and didn't claim from government, yes traveled a lot though which probably contributes to the flag on his file (but of course it was all properly documented and we made sure hew as present for the proper amount of time within the specified time period). He also got called in for fingerprints because his name was similar to someone else's apparently - which is crap because his name is one of the most unique names on the planet (his parents didn't do him any favours in that department).

My husband said the call centre guy was actually great. Very understanding that it can be frustrating, very helpful about his test results, assuring him that he had handed in everything and that it was simply a waiting game, etc. He said 45 months is typical so just forget about it for now, live life and he said you never know, you could get a surprise in the mail earlier than that but basically don't count on calling back for additional information before 2015.

We're pretty satisfied with their response at the call centre. At least we know it's not because he failed the exam. It's been almost 2 years now since sending in the initial application so another year isn't a big deal in the scheme of things.

Yes, forget about it. It will take sometime. As long as you live, work, enjoy....it will come. My situation is pretty much the same, although not yet test, for RQ in 2012...still waiting.

Sorry to hear about the RQ danielle. It seems like people who were not employed or self-employed and listed a lot of travel are at an elevated risk for an RQ. I had a lot of travel but worked full-time for a large company. I had the HR dept of my employer also provide a letter (which I have to my interviewer) saying I have been a full-time employee at the company for many many years. Fortunately I was able to avoid an RQ.

Hang in there and as nguyentu said, put it out of mind and continue on with life. Eventually it will happen.
