How long should I ask for?

Hi

I'm here on a work permit which is up 3rd July 2017. I have had 2 children with my Canadian spouse, 1 born 6 weeks ago and applied for spousal sponsorship in august 2016. I'm not working as I'm full time 'housewife' and am applying to extend my stay as a visitor. My question is how long should I ask for? If I ask for more than 6 months, (which is hopefully enough time for the PR to be processed) are they more likely to refuse?

We did this for my husband and did not get to pick how long. The first one he was issued was 6 months. We extended that and they gave us 1 year - again, no option to choose.

Thanks for your response, there is a question which asks how long do you intend to stay and you have to enter dates. I was going to ask for 6 months then thought if had to extend it, would I have to do an immigration medical again, as you have to provide proof you've had one within the last 12 months

You dont need a medical to extend your stay as a visitor and you can ask for as long as you like... they will give you however long they feel you have the neccessary funds for
