Hi folks

Just wondering if someone could help me out - I'm in Canada on a visitor permit, and my 6 months will be up at the end of September. I would like to extend my visitor status, so I need to apply within the next few days to ensure I'm within the 30 day time limit thing.

However, my question is - I can't find ANYWHERE how LONG you actually get if it's approved....? Is it another 6 months....or.....?

Any helpful comments would be much appreciated!

Cheers

You ask for how long you want on the application.

Wow that was a quick reply. Thanks! Ok thats really helpful info. I'm guessing if you ask for something unrealistic like 5 years they most likely wont give it right....lol. Would asking for 1 year be pushing it?

Probably unless you have a very good reason and a lot of money to support yourself.

er....one last question if you don't mind...!

Once the application is submitted, do you still have to follow the duration of time left on your existing visa, or can you stay until the decision comes down? Because if you have to apply at least 30 days prior to expiry, and the current wait time for the extension is 74 days.....

I'm assuming it's the latter, because the former doesn't make much sense, but would be nice if someone could please confirm this!

Cheers

Never mind, answered the question myself:

Your original temporary status as a visitor continues under the same conditions until your application is finalized and you have been notified of the decision.

You are under "implied status" until the decision is made.

1. You can re-apply, with a correct application. They probably have an understanding that you are going to visit your fiancee, so they assume your purpose is to marry and remain in Canada, not visit.

PMM,

whats your take on this --- i did an application for my mom while in USA....but now the US embassy referred my mom application to her nearest embassy...i used the same TRV application with cover letter drawing attention to Question 9 - which ask..for country you applying from...my Original Answer was USA as visitor....would this affect her application decision ?

Someone reply to my post saying it all good since i used an apology letter explain the facts an email from US embassy supporting the reason for my answer.

Well she wasn't in the US right? So the correct CHC will look at the application. If she has the funds, ties to her home country, and it doesn't appear that she will overstay and if she has a reason for visiting Canada, they will probably issue the TRV
