How long does it take to receive file no.?

I sent my application on 11th of August 2014 and it was delivered to CEC Sydney, Nova Scotia on 13th of August. Most of my friends received there file no. with in a month but so I have not heard anything from CEC. Please advise.

If you look at both the July thread and spreadsheet you can see that they are currently sending our AORs to end of July applicants. The current timeframe to receive an AOR is 60-65 days.

My application was received on 14 August and I am expecting my AOR to come mid-October.

My friends applied in the winter and April this year and they got AOR with in a month so I was expecting the same. But thanks for the information.

Unfortunately it looks like summer vacations (that is a theory, anyway) have pushed the timelines back. If you look at the 2013 spreadsheets it shows a similar pattern. Looks like us August applicants get the worst timelines

AOR stands for Acknowledgement Of Receipt. It's essentially your file number. You'll be receiving it via email if you provide one. It means that your application package is complete and is sent for further processing.

I don't know about the current trend, but it's usually between 6 to 8 weeks. Sometimes 3 months to get the AOR. Once you get the file number next step would be asking for your medicals. This step means that you are almost eligible and they will need to check your medical conditions. The time between AOR and Medical request is usually 4 to 6 months. Differs application to application.

I suggest that you read more threads, and if you couldn't find your answer then by all means ask your question.

Application Sent to CIC Sydney intake office --> Initial check includes complete form, signature on it and all supporting documents included as per requirement of CIC to process the application but this stage doesn't make you eligible but yes your application is complete and ready to process and they issue file number (AOR) and then process officer process your application according to lock-in date which shows on ECAS status " you application has been received on Month, Date and year by CIC and and under processing certain steps 1. Criminality check, Security, misrepresentation, eligibility and so on and once you pass the eligibility, they sent you an email for Medical and after pass this stage they ask you to pay for PR right and then passport request.
