I wrote to them requesting a finger print kit, I was just wondering how long it took others to get theirs in the mail?

We just went to the local police station to get the fingerprints done. We did not request a kit from anyone. Who did you write to? Most places that you go to get the fingerprints taken will have everything that you need to send to the FBI.

I wrote to the FBI, like it said to on the cic website. When you got yours done, did they charge you to do the finger prints? If so about how much?

hmmm... the instructions I found on CIC said to obtain the necessary documents from the FBI website.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/English/information/security/police-cert/north-america/united-states.asp#tphp%20idtphp

We did ours in Michigan and it was 18 per set of prints. We had them print three just in case we needed them and sent only one with the first request to the FBI.

Edited to add.... I do see where it says that you can write to them but it seems much easier to just print the documents from online.

It would seem that way, but sadly I do not have a printer. So I guess I'll have to wait to get them in the mail.

You dont need their kit to walk in to local police station and get your fingerprints taken. What needs to come from online is the cover sheet and payment info... all of which I would think you can recreate by hand. I wouldnt wait to get it done....call around to your local police and state agencies and see who can take your fingerprints. Digital fingerprints are fine, you just cant submit them to the FBI electronically.

Let me know if you need more help.

I posted something which might help.

http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/index.php#2

I forgot to write that the first time I printed the "fingerprint" card and brought it to the policestation.
The second time the fingerprint service I used had their own cards.
Maybe you would want to find somebody who can provide you with the necessary card?

If I misunderstood something I apologize.

BTW heatherusa: thank you for your post with the car export.

Maybe I misunderstood, I thought you had to have a special fingerprint card from the FBI. I guess I'll have to check around. I don't want to have it done to soon, from my understanding the police certificate you get from them is only good for about 3 months. Wouldn't have to want to do it twice.

You can go and get the fingerprints done at any time.... some places want a special card but not all of them. What starts the clock ticking is the return of the "no record found" by the FBI. Your fingerprints are your fingerprints... they shouldnt change.... but the certificate from the FBI once they have received your prints and processed them has a timeline.

haha, I knew that. But I know the wait for them to process them and get it sent back to you can be a pretty long wait. The site currently says 16-18 weeks.

actually the FBI site says "up to 12 weeks".
My first set took exactly 8 weeks (from sending off to reciveing).
And I have a second one on the way. Will keep you updated when this one arrives.

They must of just recently changed it, last time I looked it said 16-18 weeks. I'm glad the amount of time went down. Thank you for informing of this. :)

I think our first one took 6 weeks and the other one got held up because of a clerical error and that was only 8 or so weeks.

We only did a second one because we sent the first one in after we has sent in the application to CICM and were worried B'lo would lose it - which they did so I was grateful we had sent away for a second one
