i think so maybe but then what is the difference between online and paper file if it will take same processing time? because i applied online
No, in the old rules they had both online and offline, both took the same time (45/days). Advantage of online was that you would not have to wait for your documents to be couriered and your application will be 100% complete.

Now in the new rules it is online only, and you will get it in 20 calendar days.

Since you applied on 29th of April you will have to wait.

Is it true that all student visas need to be applied online now? What is the time-frame for general application and can anybody apply in general if he/she already paid full program fee, has GIC and upfront medical?

@selvakk Please advice
SDS visas are online only. You will get in 20 calendar days and it is being processed centrally. All other rules are same.

You can file paper application for general processing. That is 60 days processing. Rules for these are the same as well.

I applied on 5th april online. Medical passed on 6th may.
No other updates. Any idea why they're taking this long?
No idea, you can context them by webform. Do note that they will count only from the date biometrics has been given. So it is 45 days from that date.

@selvakk I have few questions, can you please let me know your thoughts?

Is there a way to file general online?
is there a rule that if SDS gets rejected then we need to file general only?
Do you think that in SDS they look at all the paper supplied carefully for example paper in the optional section.

I am really confused as 5th July is class starting day for my wife and she got rejected for few stupid reasons under SDS. Now IDP suggested us to file general because papers are more like my salary slips, bank statements etc.

There is no time to file general on the other side. I am worried whether they look at all papers, read sop in SDS.

There is no such rule, you can apply for SDS again.
If by paper, you mean the documents you give, then yes they look at all the documents provided. You should try to keep additional documentation to a minimum, as visa officers don't like

If you are able to prove the reasons for rejection, then you can apply again. SDS is made to reduce documents required, I personally don't think that there is any point in going for general, just because you can show additional documents.

If you are able to share the reasons for the rejection, however stupid it can be, I can give you a better suggestion on what to do.

Thanks a lot for the reply @selvakk

Below were the reasons for the refusal

I am not satisfied that you will leave Canada at the end of your stay, as stipulated in subsection 216(1) of the IRPR, based on the purpose of your visit.
• Pursuant to paragraph 220(a) of the IRPA, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and available financial resources, without working in Canada, to pay the tuition fees for the course or program of studies that you intend to pursue.
• Pursuant to paragraph 220(b) of the IRPA, I am not satisfied that you have sufficient and available financial resources, without working in Canada, to maintain yourself and any family members who are accompanying you during your proposed period of study.

We have already paid the full program fee then I am not sure why VO has mentioned about the program fee. Will explain in the letter of explanation. For last reason its mistake from SBI and somewhat on our side too. SBI gave us a sanction letter which was just two lines and pretty vague. It did came to me that the letter doesn't look right but I still went ahead and submitted the application. Later we got to know that the letter was kind of pre-sanction letter and for actual sanction letter we have to go to Regional SBI office and sign documents. Did that yesterday and got proper Loan sanction letter.

One more question, last time I submitted a Balance certificate from my wife's savings account but did not submit any statement. I am not planning to submit that letter again as that bank got a substantial deposit from my brother recently and it will be hard to explain. Will that create any problem?

PS: Did your loan from SBI got approved?

You seem to have submitted a lot of documents for SDS stream. Sometimes having a lot of documents can cause issues. In the new rules you only need to upload the 1 year tuition fees receipt, and the 10,000 CAD. Don't put too many financial documents and cause confusion for the visa officer. The more documents you upload the more issues can be found out. If you are planning to have dependants accompanying you, then you will have to file a separate application for them and include the financial proofs for them in that.

With regards to my SBI loan, it is almost at the final stages. I will have to meet my branch bank manager and if there are no queries then I will have to head to the regional office as well.
