LANDED..........
30-09-11
Just found out why we are delayed. My partner just had a phone call from Immigration. They were asking him if he has ever applied for permanent residence in Canada before. He hasn't. Apparently, there is someone with the same name (very common name) and the same birth date that got landed immigrant status in the 1980's. Because of this, they want my partner to have his fingerprints taken and he will have to have an RCMP check to verify that he is a different person.

Does anyone know how long the RCMP check takes? Immigration are sending him the fingerprint kit he needs and information of what to do. Sounds like once this is verified, he will be approved. I am guessing we will be waiting for another month or so. Not happy about the delay but at least I know what the problem is. It was the not knowing that was the hardest to take.

It can take 120 days for the RCMP, Ottawa to process the (ink based) fingerprint checks. If you have digital fingerprints taken by a 3rd party (such as commissionaires.ca), which can only be done within Canada, it can reduce the time down to 72 hours, so I am told. The difference is enough to consider flying to Canada just to get it done! Shame that CHC London don't offer this service.
Good luck
