My husband's FBI request was received on November 11, 2009 and we didn't get the results back until February 8, 2010. ::) So it took a little over 12 weeks!!

I had the same time line for FBI request , they recieved it NOV 12 but returned it 16 February so they are backlogged it seemed...the joys of dealing with the gvt

The FBI clearance seems to be an unforeseen obstacle for many US citizens. Like many others I never dreamed it could take 3+ months to obtain our own (US) government.

That being said, Isn't the process quicker if you request the FBI clearance from in the States? Two months or less?

Many people here are saying that it takes 3+ months but I'm guessing they are requesting the information while living here in Canada.

In order to further clarify this, could you please state whether you are making the FBI request from within the United States, while living in Canada, or if it is from outside North America. Thank you!

I requested mine mid-November and received it back in the 2nd week of February or so. I requested it from within Canada, but I didn't get the impression that they were taking any longer with it because I was in Canada--the only thing (I think) that would have delayed it was the mail between the US and Canada can take a week or longer sometimes. But I don't know for sure.

I have a clean record and lived in the same state my whole life except for one year! And I still live in the US! It took 3 months for me also. I don't believe that makes a big difference. I also had the expedited request date and reason on the cover letter and envelope. They're just backed up, sadly.
