Hello all i am American married to a Canadian and we are waiting on my papers Spouse sponsorship from outside Canada to come in we sent them February 2013 and my hubby got accepted as a sponsor on March 1st! Now my part of the papers are in process just found out i am pregnant as well; and in May i am going to apply for a extended stay to stay here in Canada with my husband. How long did it take to get a answer from immigration about your papers ::)? I just want to see an estimated time that it took for people hopefully i get them fast!! =] THANKS! ::) ::)

Also i would love to go visit my family i live 4hours away (driving) i am from Michigan but when i called CIC they told me that theres a chance of me getting stuck in the states while crossing the border that the officers wont let me back into Canada? has this ever happened to anyone and did they have to wait in the states until their papers where complete?

Hey,

welcome to the forum and congrats on the pregnancy!
There is a thread for US Outland application, with a spreadsheet with average waiting time. It will give you a better idea.
For uncomplicated cases it goes faster than the published 12 months. have a look here http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-outland-applicants-thread-t106068.1815.html

For outland applications, you can go in and out of Canada. Re-entry to Canada is never guaranteed, but you can minimize the risks of not being re-admitted with a few precautions: first, if you go and visit your family, don't come back with a car full, that makes it look like you're moving to Canada. At the border, tell the border officer that you are coming to visit your husband for 6 months, and that you have applied for PR. Carry the sponsorship letter with you as a proof, if asked.

Very few US citizens are denied entry to Canada, so it should go well.
Good luck,
Sweden

As long as you stress you are just VISITING Canada each time you cross, you shouldn't have a problem. Be careful to not say words like moving to/living in Canada. Until you get your PR, you will always be a visitor! You basically need to satisfy the immigration officer that you intend to leave Canada when whatever visa you have expires.

Also, i assume you are from Ontario... what do you mean by having health insurance?? I'm assuming you mean travel insurance and aren't talking about provincial coverage?

That's awesome! Not too many have the foresight to get travel insurance that covers birthing costs, when they aren't pregnant at the time.

Keep in mind that you won't be eligible for Ontario health coverage, until 3 months after you become a PR.

Also I don't think the border or immigration officers will care one way or the other if you have private travel insurance, as it doesn't really affect anything.

I consider us the lucky ones to be honest. I know a few people on here who have been waiting YEARS. I don't think I would have the patience for YEARS. If it goes to LA, take a peek at the LA spreadsheet in my signature for some timelines :)
