I am switching my college and my program is going to start in July 2016 which means i'll have to wait 6 months before my new program starts.
As far as i know one can take break during summer but in my situation i am not sure what to do ?
Can anyone help me? I can't afford to ruin my study permit :(

there is no specified period however 90 days period for study permit would apply my guess. That being said I wouldnt be out of college/university even for one day(exception summer vacation). Its too much of a risk in my mind. Again its just my opinion. There is a way to ask college/university for leave of absence I dont know if that would work or not but its worth a try. I assume leave of absence can be taken for one sem + ur summer vacation could account for it all. but again I am not sure of this and if it will create problems later on.

Thanks Mead
Just to add something i had talked to a CIC representative about this and he asked me that you'll have to apply for a visitor visa to wait that long for your next program. I was like ok but the thing is that if i get a visitor status my status as a student is gone.

I can't trust words of a CIC representative over phone because every time their answer changes.

yes u cannot trust the call center people. yes true u can stay as visitor but then u will have to apply for study permit again. they just answer ur question dont tell u the implications. Like they lack common sense

Just to add.

Yes status will change, he will have to apply for SP from outside Canada. Not eligible to apply inside with visitor visa.
