Hello,

I am a Canadian PR. i have my PR card already. I would have stayed in canada for 4 months by the end of this month. I plan on leaving in september to complete my schooling in nigeria. I have just 2 years remaining. I also heard i cannot be outside of canada for more than 6 months at a time. Coming every 6 months to canada is quite expensive for me. Please, can i stay outside of canada for more than 6 months ?

There is no "6 months" rule. You can stay out of Canada for up to 1094 days in a 5 years period.

The 6 month outside Canada is generally applied to the provincial health coverage. If you are out of Canada for more than 6 months, you would have to reapply for provincial coverage once you come back to Canada.

Just a followup question:

Do we need to notify any authority if we are staying outside of Canada for long time but within 3 years. the following link is confusing to me

Thanks for your inputs.
