Hey all !

quick question, i have a cousin visiting on a visitor's visa. her visa is valid for 2 years.
she came in september and was supposed to leave ending of october, however she got ill and is still in canada at the moment and will prolly spend the christmass holidays as well.

my question is, should she report to cic that she overstayed the time she told immigration on arrival? and secondly, how long is she allowed to stay at one time, is it 6 months?

really appreciate the advice ! thanks !

6 months - unless her passport was stamped with an earlier date. In that case she must leave by that date.

hey ! thanks for the speedy response.
They did not stamp a date on her passport to leave by.
So basically she can stay up to that 6month mark and then leave right?
much appreciated !

hey dom21

didn't you say she has a valid visa for 2 years??

This doesn't mean she can stay for 2 years. It just means she is allowed to visit over a 2 year period. Individual trips are still limited to six months.

oh gotcha

yeah 6 months and don't go over! apply for extention if you are going to stay past the 6 months allowed.

all the best
