a simple question ...
My girl friend from the Philippines has been granted a 6 month extension to a visitor's visa.
She is living with me here in Montreal and I am totally supporting her.
previously she was here for 6 months on WX-1 visa with someone else but that ended.
due to circumstances back home she may be applying for another 6 month extension to her visitor's visa.
She will continue to live with me and I will continue to support her.

I am wondering if Canada Immigration people frown upon people who apply for more than one extension.
Is this a common occurence or has she more chance of being approved by returning to the Philippines and re-applying from there?
Our long range goal is marriage but that's not possible yet as I'm still not divorced.

Thank you everyone,
Laurier

You can apply to sponsor her after 12 months living together too. That will at least make things a little easier if your divorce drags on.

As far as her getting an extension, I can't comment on that. I've gotten several, but I am visa exempt.

Make sure to show proof you're supporting her. You can also write a letter to the visa office requesting she be allowed to remain with you until you can apply for common-law. No guarantees, but having a Canadian ask might help.

Wx-1 - is that a work visa? Who was she living with?

thank you amikety
wx-1 is a sort of work visa
she was live-in nanny to some people here in Montreal
but got fed up with the 24/7 schedule and no life of her own
that's history though ... now she got her freedom

Yeah.... people get angry when I say LCP is little more than legalized slavery and degrading to people......... *sigh* (The few good employers are far, far outnumbered by the jerks.)

There are several threads here dedicated to Manilla/Pinoy sponsorship, including an English thread. You might want to ask about extending her stay in one of those threads to get a better answer than mine. They are in "Family Class." They will also be helpful when you do apply for common-law, especially with anything "visa office sensitive" to your office. (If you apply to Manila instead of Vegreville.)

my wife got two extensions, she got her PR about 10 days after the second extension was approved
