Hi All,

I am a CEC Candidate who got PR recently but stay in Montreal, Quebec. My employer is from Toronto and I am currently temporarily in Quebec as I am in client facing role. Once the contract with the client ends, I will be moved to home location or any other part of Canada. This info I clearly mentioned in my PR application LOE as well,

Looking at the current COVID situation and my office's contract, I may have to stay in Montreal for more that a year after a PR.

My query is, after getting PR under CEC, how long can I stay in Quebec. What issues can I face? Will there be a problem when I apply for citizenship?

Please help

Getting CEC may be a problem. You aren't working at this client short term you have relocated to Quebec. Do you live in Quebec? Have a home that you return to every weekend in Toronto? Do you have a spouse or have children remaining in Toronto?

Getting CEC may be a problem. I already got COPR
You aren't working at this client short term you have relocated to Quebec. Working for this client since last 2 years and the contract is ending this year in Dec. After December my employer can ask me to move to any other location in Canada or back to home office in Toronto (don't know yet)
Do you live in Quebec? Yes currently I live in Quebec,
Have a home that you return to every weekend in Toronto? No I live on rent in Quebec on yearly lease (my current lease ends in November 30)
Do you have a spouse or have children remaining in Toronto? I stay with my family, my wife and kid are with me

Have you included all this information in your application? I am very surprised that you were able to get approved for a CEC while living and working in Quebec and will no immediate plans to leave Quebec.

Yes I did, not sure why it is surprising, there are lots of applicants which have got PR under CEC while currently being in Quebec. You need to provide proof that you will be settling out of Quebec. In my case, as I told before, my employer is in Toronto. All my experience/employement letters, payslips and the tax T4 forms have toronto Toronto address. My work permit also stated that I can work anywhere in Canada. And I know I will eventually move back there only, it is just matter of time when. Things are further delayed due to COVID Lockdowns and my own health issues. I just wanted to know till what time I should move out of Quebec before it can create any issues for me.

Have you included all this information in your application? Of course I did, in fact my employment letter mentions that I am based out of Toronto and currently is being sent to Quebec for work.

Hi, did you get an answer to your question. I am in the same situation, applied for PR under CEC and currently living in Montreal but willing to move out of QC. My application is currently under processing, wondering how long will I have after getting PR before I move to a province outside of QC.

You’ll need to show that you will be settling out of Quebec so if you are currently living and working in Montreal you need to start looking for opportunities in other provinces.

Thanks for your response, my organization has office outside of QC where I can get transferred to, want to understand how soon that has to be done because transfer might take some time in approvals and all me finding a place to live. I cannot do that ahead of time because my work permit is only for Quebec.

It would be better for you to transfer now but it isn’t an option. You will need to show that you can get a transfer and move right when you get PR. Would start speaking to your employer about a transfer so it is in the works and you can provide evidence that the transfer process has started.

Thank you for your valuable suggestions canuk78, will keep an eye on this thread to see if someone else has gone through similar situation and has an answer to my question.
