Hi guys I came across this thread and I thought I'd post my story,
I'm married my Canadian in July 2012, Immediately sent our application in August.

So here is my timeline I guess:
Application Sent: August 2012
Started processing sponsorship: November 2012
Sponsorship and Eligibility Approved: Feb 2013
Medical: I will be doing that next week so Feb 2013
Med Received:??
PPR:??
LANDED:??

So my question is, how long after the Medical is done before the CIC asks for the Passport for stamping?
Does anyone have an Idea? I've hears thet if everything was well it will be within 2-4 months. Not sure tho. HELP!
Another thing is when they ask for it, how long do they give you for a deadline. For example They give you 90 days for them to receive your medical and police clearance if you don't have one.
I am asking this because I am changing my passport to my husband's last name, (yes in the middle of the application)
I know others may think that this will complicate the process but I want my COPR to be in my husband's last name. because for some of you who do not know the COPR (certificate of permanent residency) Is a Historical document, So no matter what happens whatever your name was when you got it, It will never change or be allowed to be changed. You can change the PR Card name but the COPR will stay the same. So long story short I want all my paper works to be in uniform with me having my hubby's last name. Don't worry I have read everything I need to on changing the name in the application.

I still currently have an option not to change my passport because the Philippine Consulate outreach won't be here till next month, in which I have an appointment to change my passport. So this is my dilemma, If the CIC won't need it till 3-4 months later I will have enough time to receive my passport in time. Thank you for reading my story.

PS. Our application is inland and it is in Vergreville.

Hi and welcome to this forum!

In order for the people to assist you here you must give some more info

Were your apps filed as inland or outland?
Your Visa Office must be Manila?

BTW. Why go into this changing of your passport name. You are right by saying that "this will complicate the process" Not only complicate it but also delay it for certain!
COPR is certainly a historical document but really it's just another piece of paper that will be lost in the depths of some drawer eventually ;) After all Citizenship document is prettier!

Good luck to you and may you have a quick process!

If you are applying inland, why would you need to get your passport stamped? You are already in Canada, so would just get sent COPR when the application is finally approved. After stage 1 approval, stage 2 for inland takes an additional 8 months.

Thanks for the reply messenger, I will edit my post to put in more of my info.

Our application is inland, it's being processing in vergreville.
I am currently here in Canada and been here for 5 years. I still have a work permit that is valid till Deceember 2014. Personally I am excited to
be a permanent resident but if it gets delayed for a month or 2 is not a big deal to us.

The reason why I want to change my passport in a hurry is because it is quite hard to get a passport, I am in cAlgary and the closest consulate is in vancouver, meaning I would have to fly there and get a passport wait for 2 months for it to arrive, then process that new PR with the updated name which is another 3 months based on the processing times. Which will elongate it more for me and more expensive flight fare and hotel is not cheap.lol. So i wanted to do it now that the philippine consulate is visiting calgary for passport renewal outreach. So that's why I wanted to know what the timeline is for when they need the passport and how long do they give you to send it back.

THANK YOU!

Hi Rob, I am not familiar with the last stage of the process, I thought they ask for it to get stamped or whatever you wanna call it as a permanent resident so you can use it when you cross the border. please enlighten me. or do you just need the passport and the copr when you cross the border?

You have applied inland, so you CAN NOT leave Canada during the entire application process. So you need to stay in Canada for the next 8 months or so while you are in stage 2 (after Sponsor approval). Once the application is all done and you get your COPR, you will make an appointment and "land" in a CIC office closest to you so you don't need to exit/re-enter Canada (this is just for outland applications).

Now since your stage 1 approval is done you can now get your OWP i believe. I'm not sure if you need to send passport for this. Others will need to advise if there's another reason to send your passport to CIC for an inland application.

I know what you are saying rob, but I am not planning on leaving Canada at all. The reason why I am asking this is because based on experience with all the people I know who are now PR, after everything is approved the CIC asked for their passport and then it is stamped with an immigrant visa. Then they had to cross the border and then back to canada. Just like making a u-turn. And then after that you are "landed". and they will send you the PR card. I am not sure if what you are talking about is a new process or it there are different ways to be landed. But thank you for the reply. :)

the process you described is for outland applications, with people waiting in Canada on a different type of visa. To "activate" their PR, they needed to ext and re-enter.
Your case is different - you're an inland applicant, your application will stay in Canada, and once it's over, as described by Rob_TO, you will "land" at a CIC office.

Alrighty, thanks very much. It was just confusing to me because most people I know was in Canada too and had to cross the border and back. But maybe their application was processed in the Manila office which would make sense, This is good tho cause that means when the time comes I don't have to drive to the border. On that note. Does that mean that they will not need to require my passport at all?

I was told for inland that it's takes longer to land by an appointment at a cic office, that's it's better and faster to just cross the border and come back to land because when u make an appointment they r so backed up it'll take weeks or months before you'll get to go to the office to land.

Hi Robotic, that's what I've been told too now that I asked people I know why they chose to cross the border instead of just going to an office.

Also you should note that you DON'T need a special visa to do a flagpole landing at US border. If you don't have the proper visa to enter US, you just tell the US people that you want to immediately go back to Canada to do a landing, and they will give you a "administrative denied entry" to US and send you right back to Canadian side office where you can then land with your COPR paper.

As far as i know for inland applications there is no need for sending your passport to CIC, but since i did outland others more familiar with inland process should advise!
