Anthropos: {EDITED}

I have a strange situation, and it's really starting to stress me out. My husband and I (he is the sponsor) started dating in August of 2008. We became engaged in April of 2009. We got married in August of 2010.

Here's the tough part. They don't know we're married. My husband insists that here in Canada people just don't get engaged, and certainly not married, as quickly as we did. He would feel embarrassed to admit that he got married so quickly.

So I wanted to conduct a little survey on the forum to kinda figure how soon after people got married after physical contact.

Me:
Hubby and I met June 2009, Engaged Feb 2010 and Married May 2010. All the time this was long distance eh. Appx 1 year. But we talked online from June 2008 thereabouts.
I too am a Canadian and I do feel a little uneasy telling my family that I am engaged to be married so soon after we met....

I met my sweetheart from the Philippines August 28th 2010 (online dating service). We became close and started talking of marriage in October 2010. I flew to Cebu January 4th 2011 to see her...Everything was fantastic! I met her family and I sealed our engagement with a ring on January 7th 2011.

I will be returning to marry Lylee this April/May 2011...

My family is concerned how quickly it took to get engaged...but we had to make a decision...I am definitely not very good at long distance relationships...

After we met face to face, it has been very hard for us to go back to being apart....Chatting on YM with a webcam just cannot replace actually being together...Life is short...so we're going to take the plunge...

It feels right....

So my advice to all those Canadians out there is: Follow your heart...not your crusty Canadian friends and family...

Met Feb. 14 2008
Started dating March 2008
Moved in together November 2008
Engaged December 2008
Married April 26 2009.

It was fast but we knew from the moment we met we'd be together for the rest of our lives. And we love each other more today than we did when we met. You know everybody is different.. doesn't make a marriage less genuine because you got married right away.

Our timeline

Met online: Sept 2002
Met in person: Aug 2003
Got engaged: Nov 2003
Moved in together: Dec 2004
Got married: Sept 2006

Our timeline is a bit "skewed" because when we met online we were each only about 6 months into the divorce process from previous spouses. Mine didn't take that long (finalized in April '04) but his took until July '06. Had that not happened, we'd have gotten married when we first planned to - in Feb 2005.

So, actually, if we'd had the freedom to do it, we would have gotten married only 18 months after meeting in person. As it was, it was 3 years and a month, almost to the day. A pattern of delays certainly seems to follow us around. The only thing that took longer was our immigration timeline!

We met face to face on November 26, 2009 and are getting married March 12, 2011. Had talked online sporadically since 1999, and regularly since the beginning of 2009. Even if you don't count the online talk time I don't think we are getting married unreasonably fast. We love each other and want to grow old and have a family together, that's what matters right?

Met/started dating in Canada in April 2007, on my internship for university. (When I was 19)
He came to Holland for 6 months in 2007/2008.
I came to Canada again, for another internship and graduating project for 12 months in 2008/2009.
He came to Holland for a holiday to see me in April/May 2010.
I came to Canada to live with him 'ever after' in November 2010.
Still not married, just Common Law ;) :D

We met in Taipei in the summer of 2001.
We started going out together right away.
We were boyfriend-girlfriend in Taipei until the end of 2003.
He went home to Nigeria in 2004 and I went home to Canada in 2005.
We continued our relationship long distance.
I went to Nigeria in October 2007 and we got married then.

Met in London, England in July (or was it June...?) 2008
Engaged in Ottawa on 3rd June 2009
Married in Ottawa 12th September 2010

He's Canadian and my sponsor. I have no idea why your husband would be so hesitant to tell them you're married. If you provide enough evidence in your application that the marriage is valid then it'll be fine. If they still question the validity of the marriage then they'll call you in for an interview. I think omitting such an important piece of information will be detrimental to your application if they find out. Plus, as you can see from this survey, it's very common for people to get engaged and married within the same time frame as you did. xxx
