How long after sending Application for implied status to be active?

Hey all, Thankfully my application package for inland sponsorship + Open work permit was sent out about a week ago. Does anyone know roughly how long it takes before the application has the "received" status on CIC so that we know we have implied status?

My main concern is that our application will be returned after my wife's 6 month Visitor visa expires, in which case I would have to extend her visitor visa. Otherwise if it gets through before the visitor visa expires then the implied status would be active and thus nothing to worry aout. Simply put I'm wondering how long after sending out the inland + OWP, will it take before the implied status is active.

Any help is appreciated,
many thanks.

Hi

I believe it's taking inland applicants a few months to receive AOR these days. However, AOR doesn't mean that the app won't be returned; it simply means CIC has received it.

Implied Status will start after your current status expires. If the PR/OWP app is returned after that point, that status will end and you would need to apply for Restoration. If there are no issues with the PR/OWP app, the OWP will arrive in about 4 months.

Basically, there is no way to know before you either recieve the app back or receive the OWP. If you are very worried, then you can do what others have done and apply for a visitor status extension prior to the expiry of your current status.

AOR is more than that. It also means that CIC has at least performed a cursory glance through the package and has deemed it to be complete.

[From CIC document ip08):

Initial receipt and coding
An initial process occurs on receipt of every application, including those involving Quebec
applicants. This process includes information gathering, record creation and administrative steps
to ensure that initial evaluation can begin. This process includes, among others, the following
steps:
• verification for completeness;
• return to sponsor, if application is not complete, or acceptance by date stamp receipt;
• creation of both a paper and electronic file;
acknowledgement;
• request for any support documents or information that may be missing;
• verification of and possible printing of the FOSS and/or CAIPS record; and
• electronic transfer of biodata information to CPIC.

Thank you for the timely response. Do you know if restoration of status would interfere somehow with the application? Because I planned to either
1)extend visa a few days before status expires or
2) do restoration of status if it expires and no answer is given (Feb 10th is her last day on visitor visa btw)

If I may ask, what do you suggest I do? Just extend the visitor visa a few days before her status expires?
(I thought that interferes with he PR process, so i was kind of withholding from that idea)

Thanks

As always thank you Ponga! I suppose then the initial process does not take a few months, would you be able to provide an educational guess?

Many thanks :)

I have no idea how long you will wait before receiving your AOR.

As I have already stated (in at least two of your other threads) my suggestion is for her to completely abandon the idea of ever applying for ROS, because you do NOT want to wait that long to do something...if you feel that you need to do something.

Even if/after you receive the AOR, go ahead and submit a visitor extension. You can do this online even one day before her status is set to expire. This alone would give her implied status while she awaits a reply from CIC.

It might be a waste of money, if her PR and/or OWP applications are not returned, but the peace of mind that it will give you both might be well worth it.
