Hello all, I have a question about common law relationship in Quebec....

My sponsor lived in there a few years with his ex couple and they ask in one form for any previous common law relationship and if he had i think he have to present some certificate that says they are not together.

What should he put on that question?

He said to me that in quebec if you want to have a common law relationship you need to ask for a ceremony and things like that its not automatic and he never did it so his previous relationship would not count as common law...(i think they have another name de facto ?)
and as far I know in other provinces of canada just if you share the same adress with a girl you are inmediatly
put in common law...

Im kinda lost with this, my sponsor its not 100% sure so If someone could help me pleasee
any response its helpful ???
