How important/beneficial is it to get your old education degree assessed via an ECA?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently in the process of completing my EE profile. I'll be applying via the Canadian Experience Class.

I already have a Masters degree from a university in Canada, but I noticed in the form they mentioned I'd have to get my undergrad (Bachelors) degree (which I received from a university in my home country) attested via the Education Credential Assessment (ECA) if I want to get the points for that.

Since that'll delay the submission of my profile, I'm wondering if it's even worth it to get the undergrad degree assessed this way?

I'm completely new to the EE process so I'm not sure if there's any transparency in the amount of the additional points you can get by getting your degree assessed?

Any thoughts/advice/personal experiences would be very helpful.

Thanks so much!

it depends if you need the points for your bachelor degree. if you do, getting it assessed by ECA is the only way to get points for foreign education experience and it costs probably $300-$400 bucks depends on the one you choose. Also, it took me 2-3 months to get it done. However, if you could cross the line without claiming this education, then don't do it.

You are already getting the maximum points by having a masters degree, getting your bachelors assessed won't have any impact on your points.

Could you please explain how you're saying that?

Because the Express Entry profile itself said that I can get my points increased by getting my Bachelors degree assessed?

Yeah the cost and additional wait makes me really not want to go that route.

What do you mean by "cross the line without claiming this education" by the way?

How can I check/confirm if I can "cross the line" without it? Like I said, I'm new to this process so don't know much about it. Will appreciate any resources/links that you can provide for this. Thanks! :)

there is a cut-off line for CIC to give invitations and it's different every time. Usually they give invitations every 2 weeks, but not for sure.
this is the previous rounds of express entry: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/submit-profile/rounds-invitations.html. You can use it to check how much it was for the last few rounds, it usually will be around that score.

Express entry has a comprehensive ranking system to calculate applicant's score.
This is the detailed explanation and points for each factor: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/immigrate-canada/express-entry/eligibility/criteria-comprehensive-ranking-system/grid.html
Here is the tool on their website to calculate your score: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp.

No, you can't. Google CRS breakdown.
