What I mean more specifically, is how does this work in regards to timelines?

I've read numerous times that people receive their COPR with an expiration date in the past, or one too soon to pick up and go. If that's the case, how do you get it extended? And is there an average time limit from when one receives their COPR till the day they have to leave?

Thanks!

I've never heard anyone getting it with the past date.

Usually it will depend on when your medical was done. If you did your meds in September, you will need to land by September next year, unless you did a new medical by CIC request.

The CoPR is generally valid for one year AFTER the day that you had your medical exam.

You must come to Canada to land prior to that date, but...once you land, you can leave immediately (if you need to return `home' to prepare for permanently moving your belongings to Canada). You must complete a B4 and B4 Good to Follow form for the items that you will be bringing into Canada.

Ok thanks, but if we want to just come and stay in one go, and it's all based on the medical validity which is one year, and our process alone can take a year and a half till we (hopefully) get the approval, I assume we'll need to redo the medical? Will CIC ask us to knowing that we'd have crossed the one year mark?
