How do you get more points than 450?

Hello everyone,

I see a lot of people here stating that they have points 450 and more.

I have two diplomas (as far as I know, this is full points on this subject)
My wife has master's degree (again, it seems this is full points)
I have high IELTS score; at this point even if I get perfect score, it will be only 6 points more
My wife's IELTS score is low, but still, if she had the perfect score, it would be 10 points more.
I am 35 years old, so I got 5 points deduction this year.

I have no experience in Canada, but I have more than 10 years of experience in my field.
We don't have any invitation or job offer.

And our total points is 431.
If me and wife got perfect score on IELTS (which is impossible) it would be 447 points.
Let's say I am one year younger, it would be 447+5=452 points.

So how do you do this people? All of you have perfect IELTS scores? Or you have experience in Canada maybe?

Because for me, 450+ points seems to be possible if I try the impossible.

Thanks.

people who have more than 450 have either studied or worked in canada.

that is one of the reasons their score bumps up.

in your case..you have a pretty good score...i would suggest try to go for any of the province and apply for it.

hope that helps

+1 if it did

Not true. You can achieve more than 450 points without studying or working in Canada.

How? Is because of the age an ielts?

What about some one who is 35?

35 means already you are losing 25 points (you lose 5 points for each year over 30). So a person with your profile but younger (say 29 years), will have 431+ 25= 456 points. For points, there is no difference between 3 years of foreign exp and 10 years of exp.

As someone suggested go for pnp or your wife could be primary and you could be dependent (if your wife is younger and has same ielts as yours).

Ah, true, this is my mistake. Somehow I remember points deduction starts at the age of 35. But it actually starts at 30. Now it makes sense. Thanks a lot for clearing this up, it was driving me crazy. :)

Actually I am waiting for the OINP invitation after November. I am already on 400+ points. I don't see any reason why I wouldn't get an invitation.

Unfortunately my wife has much less IELTS points than me, so that option is ruled out.

I don't have any points for study or work experience in Canada and my score is 474, secret ? High IELTS (CLB9) Masters degree 30 years old and 3 years of foreign work experience. My wife got ielts clb7 and also masters.
The only think i can see here is that your age is dragging you down, you would have 25 more points if you was 30 or so.

I can't post a link for some reason, but if you google "Express Entry – Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) Criteria" it should bring you to the CIC page that has the actual breakdown of points for each criterion.

A doctoral degree is 21 points more than having 2 diplomas. If you were 29 instead of 35 you would have 30 more points. Also, perfect scores on IELTS are not actually difficult to get if you are a native speaker of English, and there are applicants from other English-speaking countries. Some people are also bilingual in French for whatever reason (studied it in school, hobby, etc.) and can get up to 22 more points from taking the TEF. It's entirely possible to have more than 450 points without having been in Canada.
