Its the date exactly 12 months from when you moved in.
When we went to get our common-law declaration we had to wait until exactly 12 months after we signed our lease together not a day sooner and at this point the notary told us we are now considered common-law as of this date.

Ok thats pretty good to know. I always thought the conditional is just not as good in many ways.

We were just thinking if we should put a later date in so its easier to proof because we didnt have a cosigned lease in the beginning. Our common law time would then start later than it actually was.

Do not lie on your application. The day you began living together, and the day you became officially common-law, is not based on a date of your own choosing. Its based solely on the facts of when you started living together. Both the sponsor and applicant need to fill out their address history of where they've lived for most of their life, so make sure to do this accurately and not make stuff up.

Don't worry if you don't have much proofs of living together from the beginning. Just concentrate more on the most recent time from when you have shared bills, lease etc etc. As long as you can prove the most recent 12-months of cohabitation you are ok, but the actual common-law date should not be changed.
