Sobeys must have closed down. There was one in Kanata. I think if you are 20 mins from stittsville, we will be VERY close neighbours. We plan on to settle in the west end somewhere. Grew up in Kanata.

perhaps it's in kanata, not stittsville. i'm not sure where the lines cross. the sobeys i know is pretty new... only a few years old. cool! my hubby lives off carling, across from the Canadian Tire. His sister and her family live in Kanata... parents are in Stittsville. are you in ottawa now?

In Thailand with the missus. Return July 10. Will decide on where to live exactly once I find job. There are several dental labs in Bells Corners and my brother lives off Richmond rd close by. We could very well be future neighbours.

It's unlikely she will. After We have SA, which, like you mentioned could be another month for adding a missing/updated document, we will apply for TRV. She is from a non visa exempt country and can be difficult to obtain one. She has never been to Canada. I just keep coming back here for now. But once I start my career, will likely have no vacation time, so it could be awhile before we see each other again, if a TRV is not possible.
For sure, I will update everyone, probably on our march thread, when we know for sure. I sure hope the four of us can meet.

A lot of the grocery stores in Canada operates under one of the 3 major stores: Sobey's, Loblaws or Metro.

I always thought that Safeway WAS one of the major grocery stores.

Loblaw own the following: Atlantic Superstore· Dominion· Extra Foods· Fortinos· Freshmart· Maxi· No Frills· Provigo· Real Canadian Superstore· SaveEasy· SuperValu· T&T· Valu-mart· Wholesale Club· Your Independent Grocer· Zehrs; Joe Fresh (non-grocery); Dominion (Nfld)

Out west, yes. In the east, not so much. Guess sobeys is becoming a major player country wide now. And what about Longo's? Major player? I think so, at least in Ontario.

Longo's is a private company so you won't find it under the stock market. I wouldn't be surprised in a few years, they will be approached by one of the 3 grocers to buy them out.

US: free shipping on the internet
Canada: HA! you're lucky IF it even ships to canada!

(my canadian family uses me as a personal courier for packages)

Yes internet shopping is way easier in the USA. When i buy something on ebay from canada ive had sellers in the USA actually tell me they will have to check if the post office delivers to Canada or not. lol But sending packages to Guam is no problem for them.

Loving this thread guys ... no i'm not American .. I always refer to America as the states , my Welsh friend always says America lol I have lived in Canada now 28 years and i still get homesick , it never seems to go away. When i do go back i eat every thing that i have missed . It took many years to get used to the season and you can't find a swimsuit in January and if you didn't buy the kids snow suit in September you had to pay top dollar . The one thing i did tell my Welsh husband , is that every thing goes on Sale here at one time or another. Graet postings!!!
