Americans are very very patriotic. You see American flags everywhere.

You don't see many Canadian flags every where only at schools and government buildings in Canada.
I think many (perhaps the minority of) people that display their American flags, do it for all the wrong reasons. Not because they are proud to be an American, per se, but because they view their flag as a `tool' to proclaim that you can't take away their gun, or anything else associated with the freedom that the flag represents. I say that as a born American. Do I live my country? Absolutely! Am I still proud to be an American? Absol...well, I'll get back to you on that one.

I see many Canadian flags around town and at first caught myself asking what the holiday was...only to realize, there wasn't one.

Having said that, I have no plans to renounce my American citizenship in favour (see, I know that it's spelled with a `u' up here) of any other country, just yet.

There's free shipping on Amazon.ca if you go above a certain value.

my canadian husband is amused by the amount of bumper stickers he sees in the US.
My all time favourite bumper sticker was on a beat up station wagon that was being driven by a woman (maybe ~late 20's) with curlers in her hair and a bunch of screaming kids piled in the back, driving on an LA freeway.

The sticker simply read:
F**k you you f**king f**k.

I nearly wet my pants, laughing so hard.

When I got next to the car, trying NOT to laugh...she had that "Please crash into my car and kill me" look in her eyes.

She was probably on her way to a modeling photo shoot, or a sitcom taping. LOL!

and on that note, Canada respects its employees and doesn't force them to work on important family holidays!

I loved Toronto area...I had to get use to the gas price as I drive a v8...also the high taxes on everything. My husband is now living in Calgary and we love seafood...especially fish...I was in shock how expensive a simple fish like Tilapia costs in calgary...here in Dallas I can buy 1 for less than 2.00..in Calgary it was around 5.00 a pound. I think the hardest thing for me will be paying for car insurance, right now i pay 70 for full coverage and if i choose just the basics its about 50.00 a month...I expect to pay over 200 a month once in Calgary.

Not anymore. We can now adopting black Friday to prevent the flood of Canadians flocking to the US for deals. Not that it will work but it is being adapted here.

true, but the deals are still not the same. also, working on US thanksgiving obviously isn't that big of a deal for canadians. In the US, stores are now forcing employees to work ON Thanksgiving so they can keep up with demands and start sales early. shameful!

i find it funny you use the term "American" to identify US citizens. Usually, Canadians love referencing "North America" as a way to identify Canada. Now, whenever I hear the term mentioned, i know they aren't talking about the US... they are most likely referencing Canada.:)
Well, my in-laws (even my husband most times call me "American" or 'my American' but they call the US 'the States' not America so it tends to be where you are I guess.

And I like it here. The area I'm at now is very much like where I grew up except the abundance of French ( which I am learning).

I noticed that Canada has a lot more variety of chocolate bars and a lot more flavour choices of chips, ie chicken bbq, ketchup, etc.

Let's see ... There really aren't that many 'facia' differences from where I am in Canada (near Windsor) and where I came from (Ann Arbor, MI).

The biggest things that grabbed my attention. The price differences for the simplest of things. Like cheese. Who in their right damned mind pays almost $8 for a bag of Kraft shredded cheese? I mean really? Seriously? Back in A2 (Ann Arbor shorcut :p) same bag of cheese, roughly $3.50. Must be that 'special' Canadian milk that drives the cost. Hmm, gas is dang expensive. Basic necessitites are pretty pricey too. What I have noticed is that after being here for 1 1/2 years, I am becoming more 'Canadian'. I see a deal at a store and say, "Oh, that's a good deal, eh?" completely oblivious to the fact that if I took a trip across the border, I could save double that again ;)

Car insurance and how it actually WORKS over here, takes a bit of getting used to.

Hmmm, the title for a car. Seriously, on this wee little tiny piece of paper and I'm supposed to keep this with me at all times, but what if my wallet is stolen with it in it? Yeah, OK, well, that is a bit strange, but you get used to, especially when you realize you could probably leave that same title on your dashboard, with the doors open and the keys in the ignition and the car running. Go on vacation, come back a week later and there would be a note from your neighbor saying "I noticed you left your car running when you went to the airport. I let it run for 3 days, and when you didn't come back I was fearful because your gas gauge was getting low, so I shut it off. You can pick up your keys at my house. Have a great day, eh"

I am finally learning how to think in metric but I still can't do it all in my head thankfully my job has 'conversion' cheat sheets just for me :D

The speed limits. I drive a sports car. There are times I just want to hop on the highway and put my foot in the accelerator, but Canadian speeds keep me limited to 4th gear. How do you people ever get that need for speed out of your blood? I think I get faster speeds out of my John Deere running through the back field ;)

I am sure there are other things that are different, but really, it is very very close to the US.

My husband grew up in Phoenix and now lives in a small town in Canada with me. When he first came here, he was mortified that I often left my house with my door unlocked. Now he does it more than me! He feels the people here are much friendlier. He enjoys seasons (Arizona obviously has summer and... hotter summer).
He took some time to get used to the high taxes. I have to remind him when he's sick to see the Doctor because he is used to having to pay for it.
Canadian Netflix sucks.

The little paper, title of car stays in the car with the car insurance in the glove compartment. You don't need to have it in your wallet the whole time. Driver's license is what you need to keep in your wallet the whole time.
