How do people not living Canada get more than 400 points?

Hello,

I'm kinda new here, but I've read this forum for years. Anyway, I've noticed there are some people here that don't live in Canada and are getting ITAs. How do you guys do that?

I've lived in Canada for almost 2 years, and my score is 396...kinda frustrating. My IELTS results are great, my partner is about to graduate and has a bachelor from back home...once he graduates here, it's not a lot of points that we'll get. The job thing seems like a red tape. I have a full time job, 2 part time jobs, all in the NOC, but I do understand I can't add the hours of the 3 jobs together...it has to be "from the same job".

Having said that, I find it difficult, and I live here! I have my life here now! I was just wondering, how do you guys do it? The only thing that it's keeping my score below 450 is the Canadian Experience. Mind you, it took me a year and a half to get a full time job with all the benefits and blah blah blah.

It does not add up. I calculated your CRS as 417, with the assumptions that -- AGE is 33 (less would earn you more points), spouse's degree as Bsc and IELTS at CLB 9. I didn't even consider your Canadian experience.

Exactly. That's kind of what I'm thinking too. She must be missing out on something while calculating.

you can get around 455-460

if you have the following:-

1. Not in Canada
2. 2 post secondary degrees (at least one equivalent to 3 years or more Canadian bachelor)
3. CLB-9 in Language (IELTS - L:8, R,W,S: 7)
4. Experience 3 years or more.

PS: When you have 2 post secondary degrees and CLB-9 you get 50 points extra. if you have 1 degree and CLB-9 you get 2 points extra.

It's not clear what you mean -do you mean you are working 3 jobs at the same time? Or do you mean you worked part-time jobs before getting full-time work?

Experience for CEC does not have to be from the same job, and you CAN add hours of part-time jobs - the "equivalent" of full-time work does count. What you can't do is count more than 30 hours per week, it is simply "full time" then.

Example: 1 full time job @ 35 hours per week = 1 full time week.
Example: 2 simultaneous part-time jobs - 15 hours at one, 20 hours at another in the same week = 35 hours per week = 1 week full-time equivalent
Example: 1 full-time job, one part-time job at the same time: 35 hours +10 hours per week = 1 week full-time

If you work fewer than 30 hours per week, then it is part-time and you have to calculate the FTE by adding up the hours and diving by 30 -
Example: 1 part time job @ 15 hours per week. Add up all the hours, divide by 30 for the full-time equivalent # of weeks.
Example: 2 simultaneous part-time jobs, 10 hours +10 hours = 20 hours per week. This is still part-time, so add up and divide by 30 for FTE.

With everything, it is dependent on a range of things. If you want something, you have to make it happen. Could be a difficult career for full time, level of skill, how you come across in interviews. There are so many reasons and factors. Everyone I know that has moved to Canada had eventually set themselves up with full time jobs and living the life.

My wife and I gave our IELTS a couple of weeks ago and scored rather well.
I got an 8.5 and she got an 8.
Both of us are PG degree holders from Bombay University with over 3 years of work experience each.

Though I have not got our degrees evaluated by WES yet, I made an assumption that both would be evaluated as equivalent to a Canadian Masters' degree and found that we're jointly notching up 480 points (above the current cut-off levels).

I'm sure that if we had French as well, we'd have notched up the 520.

I think the trick here is to score well in the IELTS as it opens up options for bonus points as well.

Probably age is more. That's what shooting down her points

I see now, you guys have two post secondary degrees.

I currently have 3 jobs. One is full time, 35 hours a week. The other 2 part time jobs are 12 hours a week. No days off here!

So even though I'm doing over 60 hours a week, they don't add up? UGH!

Which of the provinces do you reside?. With crs score of 404, you stand a great chance of getting a letter of interest from Ontario. Let him do his ECA asap.
