Hello,
I am a US citizen, who was under visitor status in Canada. I applied for an extension but it was refused due to a problem with the passport image. While I was waiting on the decision the expiration date on my status which was September 9 2016, passed. I received the decision letter on October 26 2016, so I am still within the 90 days. I was advised to apply for restoration of status before those 90 days. My problem with the application is the following:
I choose "visitor status " from the drop down menu on the pdf application, then enter my initial arrival date, but when I enter the date when my status was to expire, (September 13 2016) it gives me an error message, that says " the date needs to be equal or greater to the current date" which I assume means I cannot enter a date that has already passed. I called CIC and they sent me a guide on how to fill out the application. In the guide it says that "out of status applicants" should choose foreign national from the drop down menu.
So am I considered out of status even though I'm within the 90 days? Is choosing foreign national correct? I just want to be sure and not make any mistakes.
