jma,

1. Use the residency calculator to see if you have reached 1095 days. The count starts from the date you sign your application and goes back 4 years. Within this 4 years you have to be physically present in Canada for 1095 days. In my opinion, you should actually accumulate a month or so more than 1095 days. In this case you are safe even if there is some miscalculation.

2. Go through the application document carefully and answer all questions. Do not be hasty. Take a printout and fill it as a rough copy. When you are satisfied that all questions are properly answered, then go ahead and make your final copy.

3. Do not leave any blank period. The full 4 years must accounted for including time spent in studying or unemployment. If there is any gap, it will raise question and delay your application.

4. While gathering documents, make sure you have exact dates and papers for your travels outside of Canada within the 4 years.

5. Arrange all documents in a logical manner.

6. I shipped my application package by CanadaPost regular. Tracking and receiving signature cost more.

Hope the above is useful. I wish you success.
