Hi, my name is mike and dunno how i found this forum and i really wish you guys could give me a hand. Heres my case: my girlfriend and i have been together for 4 years (as a couple, NOT living together or in a common law/marital relationship) we are both 21, later this year she will be recieving her permanent resident as dependant child, and we both planed to move together to canada around december or january, of course she will land as resident and i will go on a 8 mont english course. The thing is we want to settle in toronto and in the future get married, we have already talked about and agreed not to get married until we graduate from the university (wich we are planning to attend there) so my question is: can i somehow apply for my residence during the 8 months ill be there on study visa? Is there any way she can sponsor me for residence without getting married and that would somehow be fast? I have the economic resources to extend my stay in the course without any problems or even start university, i have the financial status to be able to mantain myself during my stay and at least 2-3 years there without work (eventhough it would be nice to work too ;D) please give me a hand here, we really want to carry on with our lives in canada

If you can extend your stay long enough, you could apply under common law. To qualify, you will have to have lived together for at least one full year before applying.

The only really fast way for her to sponsor you would be marriage.

First, she can't sponsor you under family class since you are not related in any way. As the previous poster said: if you can stay long enough you can become her common-law husband then you could apply inland. Come to think of it, even in that case she would be within the 3 year understaking of her sponsor. Can someone who is part of an undertaking sponsor someone else? Somehow I doubt it. So you might have to wait 3 years, not 1. Not sure about that though.

Regardless you should be aware that immigration will not be willing to grant you a study visa if they discover you have no intention on leaving Canada at the end of your studies. You are trying to use the system in a way it was not intended.
