Hi!
My fiance and I are trying to find a way to live together here in Ontario, Canada. I am a Canadian citizen and he is an American citizen.
Financially, I can not support him so he needs to be able to work here in order to move in with me.
Unfortunately, he doesn't have a degree that meets the standards to apply as a skilled professional worker.
We are lost in this whole process and could use any advice or information you can share. We know that once we are married I can sponsor him as a permanent resident which will then enable him to work here. However, we don't want to wait that long if we dont have to. He is willing to work pretty much anywhere.
He currently works as an armored guard for Loomis, which is not a company in Canada, so transferring is not an option either.
We appreciate any help we can get!

Hi

In order to apply for a work permit, your fiance would need a job offer from a Canadian employer with a positive Labour Market Opinion. A positive LMO is basically permission from the Canadian government to hire the foreigner instead of a Canadian citizen or PR.

It is very difficult to find employers willing to go through the LMO/work permit process. It takes several months and the LMO application costs the employer $275, non-refundable even if it is negative.

Your fiance can apply for as many jobs as possible to try to find such an employer but chances aren't high.

If you get married and submit an outland sponsorship app through Ottawa, he would most likely get PR in around 8-10 months. He would not be able to work during this time.

Thanks for your reply! good information although its a bit disappointing to hear. Does anyone know what type of work is most likely to go through the LMO process? ..Fields of work that have trouble finding employees in Ontario? Could he run his own business here?
I appreciate your help!
