Each province has subsidized housing. But generally speaking, the waiting times are insane (i.e. 10 years plus in some provinces).

Also not sure if you would even qualify if you have a full time job. Hopefully someone else can comment.

Yep at 13.60$ @ 40 hr comes to 28000 salary yearly. What options are available if someone rents privately from available properties in the market.

Trying to get an idea on long term perspective.Lets say I like my job but as its minimum wage I will have difficulties with meeting expenses.

You might qualify for a rental subsidy of a few hundred dollars. But there is a waiting list and those with more urgent needs are assisted first. This means someone with children or someone elderly or someone disabled would come ahead of you.

After 40 hrs per week, you want 2nd job. Have heard about work-life balance, relaxing, leisure, family time, entertainment etc.

Why do you say that?

Canada has never become China. We can vote whom to be our mayor in Canada, while this is not an option in China.

40 hours a week of work really isn't that much. It's only 8 hours over 5 days. I have one job that is a managerial office job and work more than that each week - so do most of my colleagues.

I was only talking about the long working hours of sweatshops of Foxconn in china & same applies to clothes/apparel manufacturers in Bangladesh.

Yes - I have weekends off. Although sometimes I'll work a few hours from home over the weekend to catch up. During the week, I'm usually in the office at least 10 hours each day.

You are lucky to get 10 hrs per day from i guess single job. I hate part time contracts where you have ask management for overtime or else search for 2nd part time job. The management will force to overtime sometimes but you will have to go for 2nd job. Sometimes u need overtime to pay the bill but management will be mad cuz you didnt do OT when they asked.. Its a bittersweet situation.

But the thing is minimum wage job vs is managerial office job 10 hrs are not any where near in term of physical demands. So just for the sake of discussion - asking to do 10 hr minimum wage job is got good for your health longterm.

Everyone has different expectations, I suppose, when I first landed I took the jobs that I could get. They weren't glamorous, and requires standing for most of shift, physical work. I didn't want to starve, so I got a second job... then later I was able to move into a better full time position, and the second job went away. I am away from Canada now, and work well over 50 hours a week. Again, it isn't horrible, and allows for the style of living my family enjoys. Never felt like my work-life balance was hurt. Even working. 60 hours a week (plus travel time), leaves plenty of time (and I had kids at that time). If you are just working one minimum wage job, there will likely be significant issues with resources, and ability to enjoy time off, but if time is most important - enjoy.

Why stick to minimum wage? There is no rule that says you have to. Get a better paid job then..
