i got invited to a wedding in canada. my friends will pay for the entire trip: airplane ticket, board and lodging. they sent me an invitation letter. i'll only be staying for 2 weeks. and i'm currently a student.

my questions are:

1. do i still need proof of funds?
2. on the application form, question no.5, "funds available for my stay in canada" what do i put in? and then on the instruction kit, it says that if i got a host who will provide support, include their name and address on a separate sheet...which sheet?

thank.you

There is a document called "Undertaking of Support" that is what your friend should fill out.

I was told by someone in a Visa Office that it is the finances of the applicant that most interest a Visa Officer. So, even if you have sponsors ready to pay your expenses, you'll have to show some assets of your own.

This raises the question, why does Canada ask sponsors for proof of funds, when the Visa Officer will grant/deny the visa based (only) on the applicant? Strange.

yea, has anybody thought about having that visa officer to read all these posts?

We never know. Probably visa officers "stalk" the forums :) Anyway as to the statement of undertaking, your host can go to a notary in Canada. The notaries normally know what to put on the undertaking that your host will be responsible for your room and board, medicals and fare back home should the need arises. It is an affidavit of support.

Here is the link to the Undertaking of support PDF that was found from the Government of Canada's Kenya site. This is what we are using. It won't let me post the link but put "www" in front of the following and you'll have the document.
