Hi All

I have just submitted by FC visa application, and looking forward to the 9 month wait ahead!

Since my (Common Law) girlfriend's UK visa is now expired, we are moving to Canada from June, with me travelling on a holiday visa - with the intention of being a man of leisure until I am processed. Since the holiday visa period is 6 months, and the processing time expected to be longer than that, I was wondering what my options would be for holiday visa extension? Am I able to pop across the border to the USA, and then get another 6 months, or is there an extension procedure? Or... will I need to go back to the UK for a bit?!

Also, will Canada immigration be OK with me having a one way ticket in to the country? Single tickets are about £300 at the moment, and open returns are much more expensive!

Any advice would be truly appreciated :)

1. If you are admitted for 6 months, then 30 days prior to expiry you apply for an extension to Vegreville.
2. One way tickets are not a good idea. The airline may decline boarding (as you don't have status in Canada) and Border Office may decide that you are not a genuine visitor. But your choice, you take your chances.

Many thanks for the response.

Just out of interest, would I require a return flight to the UK, or would a flight to the states suffice?

Out of interest, if I am unable to extend my trip after 6 months, how long do I have to wait until I can come back to Canada? and would I have to come back to the UK, or could I pop over to the USA/Mexico or whatever?

Cheers

When I got to Canada on my working holiday visa I didnt have a return ticket. If the border office had asked I would have answered that I intend to travel and see as much of the country as possible and therefore couldnt tell in which province Im gonna end ,and that it would be cheaper and easier to book a flight from whatever province Im gonna be after that year. But he never asked. He didnt ask for my health insurance or how much money I had either. Nothing. And I've heard from some other german working holiday participants that they didnt have to show these things either. I would still recommend having health insurance and enough money and this was just my experience but honestly I wouldnt worry too too much.

For the record, I bought a single, explained my circumstances to the border officer, was ushered to another office, and they were extremely understanding and let me through.
