Hi everyone,
My situation is a bit unusual, normally to be able to work in Canada as a Live in Caregiver, the steps that should be taken is as follow:
1. Employer apply for LMO
2. CIC issue the LMO
3. Employee apply for visa and closed work permit prior to entering canada
The requirement for this application is,
a. Graduate from High school
b. Able to speak english/french
c. 6 months full training as caregiver OR 1 year experience as full time paid caregiver
4. Enter Canada and start working
The procedure above is standard procedure for hiring foreign live in caregiver
However, I am currently living in Canada as a foreign worker and I have an open work permit valid until next year since my spouse goes to the University as a full time graduate student. Thus, I am ELIGIBLE to work anywhere and to any employer in Canada with my open work permit.
My questions are ,
1. should my potential employer apply for an LMO under live in caregiver program right now ? thus, I should then apply a new closed work permit and cancel my existing open work permit ?
2. I don't have the 6 months full time training as a Live in Caregiver nor the 1 year paid experience as a live in caregiver. Can I work as caregiver for my potential employer for 1 year (using my open work permit) and then apply the LMO and the closed work permit and follow the normal route/procedure for live in Caregiver stream after that (by that time I will have completed the minimum requirement of 1 year paid experience with Canadian employer, all documentation will be available including the T4 slips confirming that I have satisfied the 1 year paid experience)
I realized that my situation is a bit unusual and I have tried to browse the CIC website, however I couldn't find the answer for my situation, so any thought or advices will be much appreciated. Thanks
